BOOO yA!!!

Tails from Acen.

So I ran Into the Nexus at a new Con the year. Anime Central in Rosemont IL. Gaming wasn’t a main focus of this convention but it was still a good time. I had a nice small game with 5 players and they didn’t fail to be inventive and entertain.

Yesterdays cast of characters were

Lucas (Ray) the Knave

Alfonso Rubio Witinksi IV the Human AIr Magicka

Princess Claudia the Dwarven Warrior

Maxwell the Elven Earth Magica

And last but never least

Zeke the Human Fire Magicka.

The adventure begins

Our group had taken a job from the Brotherhood of the Hand to see who had taken over a local keep and was not allowing anyone who ventured near it to ever return. Instead of going themselves, these brave warriors payed (conned) a traveler to go to the keep and report back what he found. In the meantime they decided to take a local job of seeing what was killing a local rancher’s tier*. After a thorough investigation they discovered some rather large tracks. These tracks led to the edge of the island. They found a rather steep path leading down to a ledge.  While walking down this path Ray lost his balance and fell, the ever so excellent Princess Claudia was able to grab him and instead of pulling him to his feet thought the wiser move was to fireman carry him down herself. She failed. Ray was sent hurtling down the path with 300lbs of metal she-warrior rapidly sliding behind him. Claudia was able to move in time without turning Ray the Surefooted into Ray the Groundbeef.

After some snooping and spying the group discovers an old elven smugglers cove. Without a word to anyone Maxwell Not Terribly Smart starting casting a spell to bring the roof down on whatever was in there. This succeeded in killing the remaining tier but not the two 20′ trolls that were inside.

The trolls came barreling out of the cove carrying large smash you in the face type weapons (Tree trunk and small boulder). This valiant group of brave brave warriors and Magickas ran tot he edge of the ledge and some even cowered behind Her Grace Princess Claudia. A terrible terrible battle ensued. Fire was slung, attacks were snuck, and blunderbuii were fired. This resulted in one troll taking 9 whole points of damage. So Maxwell the Inept casted his spell to make the ledge where the troll was standing fall away into deep sky. The dice was rolled, the awesome was misdirected**.

The floor of the ledge gave way right in front of the second troll causing it to fall. However it also took Claudia the Gravity Enhanced as well. She was able to barely hang on screaming, “I told you taking ranks in climb was not a waste of time!”

At the same time Zeke had sent a ball of the fire into a very sensitive area of the troll’s reproductive system.  This caused a little more damage and the loin cloth to burn. Ray the Emboldened, after holding his action,  stabbed the Burning monster in his “Fire Dick”. This massive damage in his special no-no spot caused the troll the step back and fall off the ledge.

Victory!

The battle was won, the mission was unsure, and game time had run out.

They had lived to lie about their story to others.

All was well.

Until the next time

48

I have completed the 1.5 revision of the Core Rulebook. 48 Pages of glory.

Last printing was 26 so I am pleased with the progress.

If all goes well my first Con run of the season will be at Acen in Chicago. I have most of the particulars with them worked out, just working on game times.

The Dwarves are proving to be trickier than I had anticipated. Right now the classes are Noble, Knave, Shaman, and Warrior. I have rough drafts (or what my daughter call Sloppy Copy) worked out just need to refine then do play testing.

That is all for now.

Magicka – Anything is Possible

The Magicka are the most respected and feared group of people on Arianis. They control the world around them by tapping into the power of the possibilities.
These masters of the arcane follow one of the four elemental disciplines; Earth (Dark), Fire (Sun), Air (Firmament), Water (Spring). A Magicka’s career is vastly different depending on their discipline.

Spring Magicka usually are pacifists, specializing in healing and life restoration. These are the most revered of the Magicka

Firmament Magicka, are the students. They are most often the advisers to the local government. They practice their art with the manipulation of the people and what people need. This can be anything from engineering to diplomatic relations. The Mystriarchs of the high realm were Firmament Magicka.

Dark Magicka are one with the land and beast. Usually employed as trainers and tamers of dragons, they have an almost symbiotic relationship with the natural world.

Sun Magicka – The War Mage. Blinded by the power of raw evocation, these Magicka are the most feared and reviled. They are impatient to the subtle requirements of the other disciplines. These Magi are usually found on Dragons raining down fire in battles. They are masters of destruction and are highly aware of it.

Kir – Worshiper of Death

The Kir Monks, being a secret and closed organization, refuse to discuss
their origins. Legend has it, however, that they were founded by a group of human wizards who were
endeavoring to discover the secret of soul-capture. The wizards failed to achieve their goal, but the order
they founded remained. Ordinary humans-those not possessing magical talents-were allowed to enter,
and over the years, the kirs gradually turned from the attempt to cheat death to a worship of it.

The Kenkari – Keepers of Souls

The Kenkari, an isolated group of powerful elven magicka, also employ a very specialised form of magic based on the spirit which allows them to communicate with the souls of others, living or dead and on one occasion have been shown to change their forms into their order’s symbol; the butterfly, which is a glaring exception to the mechanical focus. However, this can possibly be explained by their use of song in these communications, as well as their use of a special box to transport souls and a cathedral designed to contain the captured souls.

Post Game Funk

After doing multiple conventions and gaming sessions usually leaves me in a funk where I don’t want to even think about gaming. This year’s lasted longer than before.

I am happy to say I am in full game mode with weekly updates to follow.

I have all the races flushed out and will begin posting some pics and descriptions.

After the last two conventions I have reworked the Kir Monk to be more like they should be instead of Kung Fu fighters.

My goal is to have a ebook ready by Dragon Con 2012.

Thanks

Dragon*Con Thoughts

So I am back from Dragon*con. It is by far my favorite to both attend and run games. The game coordinator Mark is fantastic and great to deal with.

I ran 3 different games 5 sessions total.

First was the staple of my game running. The escape from the dragonship. It was as always a blast. Its a plus when they don’t destroy the ship. There were no plusses last Friday.

Second was the race through random dungeons. First session was …. well, chaotic is putting it mildly. Lots of arguing a craziness. Some people embrace the magic system. Other can’t handle the endless possibilities and they explode. The second session had a surprise in it that they two parties ended up just passing each other.

Third was my favorite.

The Farsight problem.

This was a mini campaign. We had 20 players for this and everyone had a great time. The enemy was destroyed after almost 9 straight hours. These guys did well with the Magic system. Lots of strange and unusual spells. The walker was used very effectively. Need to flush out the Knave better. I also really need to get some elves into the mix.

Well those are just some highlights of Dragon*con. I will add some more notes when I compile all that went on.
